Not bad, I bought my 90 with 155k 100% stock for $1700. But I had to replace the braking system, suspension and tires immediately.

CP/Red flag.
Why is the seller bailing after doing pretty much the only major job a Miata will ever need?

Thats a really good point.

My view is tainted by an overpriced NB in the local Walmart lot with terminal rot I checked out today. $1600 isn’t a life changing amount. This (most likely) will be a good car for the next 3 years. But don’t think it is a forever car.

That’s a high mileage miata!!
I say low ball him and see if you can get it cheaper. If for some reason he gives it to ya, take it and keep racking up the miles!
I like the steelies and classic black cloth interior. You can tell it’s an honest Miata that just wants to keep truckin

I already have a solid DD, so this would be a project/weekend car

A solid(ish) Miata is probably a good choice then. Worst case scenario you build an Exocet.

Only in California could you find a price so good, and still be told to wait for better.

Looks like a great deal to me! They come up around that price in my area occasionally, but only with a liberal coating of rust behind the doors.... at $1600 you may as well snag it and spend the winter dealing with whatever problems the owner isn’t mentioning.
